Many people have a misunderstanding that lab-grown diamonds are fake or replicas of real diamonds. Avoiding the origin, a natural and a lab-grown diamond are the same in every property. Lab-grown diamonds are kind of a fortunate thing for people who are finding it difficult to afford an engagement ring with a natural diamond. The cost of a lab-grown diamond is significantly low when compared to a natural diamond. You can save around 40% if you are going for a lab-grown diamond rather than a natural diamond.
Are you familiar with the factors that affect the price of a lab-grown diamond? Read below to find out more about the pricing of a lab-grown diamond.
As the properties of a lab-grown diamond are the same as that of a natural diamond, the quality parameters used for pricing are also the same. Just like a natural diamond, the ‘Four Cs’ are significant for a lab-grown diamond. Let us discuss more about the ‘Four Cs’.
Color
IGI grades the majority of lab-grown diamonds. The color scale of diamonds varies from D to Z. Grade D is the most colorless and the color increases when the grade increases to Z. The cost also decreases as the color grade increases to Z. Most people prefer color grade between G to J considering they are almost colorless to the naked eye and less costly than absolute colorless diamonds (grade D).
Clarity
Clarity grade refers to the inclusions or flaws in the diamond. Diamonds with fewer inclusions and flaws are more expensive than a diamond with noticeable inclusions. There are different grades indicating the clarity of a diamond. VS1 and VS2 are the most preferred clarity grades.
Carat
Carat weight is nothing but the weight of the diamond. You may have heard 1-carat, 2-carat diamonds. As common sense dictates, the price of a diamond increases with an increase in carat size.
Cut
The cut on a diamond is significant as a quality cut is very much necessary for the diamond to reflect light brilliantly. The price depends on the cut quality and for good cut quality, you have to pay more.
Shape
There are several diamond shapes available in the market. Each shape has its own features. The most common type is round cut diamonds and they are the most expensive too. The high cost accounts for the superb brilliance and sparkle offered by the round-cut diamond. Some other cuts of diamonds are Oval, Asscher cuts, etc.
